Harford Community Action Agency will hold its Annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner on May 1, 2008 from 6 - 9 p.m. at the Bayou Restaurant in Havre de Grace.  The agency will present the Volunteer of the Year Award, and recognize all the volunteers and staff who contribute to the ongoing success of the work we do.

Don Mathis, President and CEO of the national Community Action Partnership, will be our keynote speaker.  A delicious buffet dinner will be served.

HCAA is partnering with the Harford County Department of Community Services and AARP Tax Aide to provide information on the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and on free tax preparation for low income Harford County residents. 

The EITC, created by Congress in 1975, is the single largest federal program designed to lift people out of poverty.  However, national estimates are that 15% - 20% of workers who qualify for EITC do not apply for it. 

If you worked in 2007, had children living with you, and earned less than about $38,000<br>or<br>did not have children living with you and earned less than about $13,000<br>YOU COULD QUALIFY FOR THE EITC!

You can get free tax help.  Call the HCAA Tax Credit Outreach Hotline at 410-638-3567 for a list of the locations, days and times where AARP Tax Aide is providing free income tax preparation for low- and moderate-income Harford County residents.

If you qualify for EITC, you may be able to receive a portion of it in your regular paycheck to help with ongoing expenses.  Ask your employer for an IRS Form W-5.
